Stephen Dwyer Photograhy

2024

Stephen Dwyer is an independent photographer working in Sydney, producing stock and news images for print and digital applications. His work focuses on people, landscapes and representing the everyday life of Australians.

This logo was developed with versatility in mind. I created a simple, sleek design that could work in a variety of applications and at different scales. The logo is set within an aperture blade ring, referencing the photography context while clearly framing the logo. The ‘SD’ initials were included in the icon to remove the need for the full company name to always be included, while still making the simple design distinctive. I chose to create a monocolour logo as a primary use was identified as a photograph watermark. This meant the design could not be overly detailed and needed to be clear at a lower opacity. I chose a sharp, modern san-serif font to maintain the clean design and align with the style of the client’s work. I created a hierarchy in the text through weight, drawing attention to the client’s name which is central to his brand.

I worked collaboratively with the client through the design process to produce a suitable logo. In this process we ensured the designs were applicable across all of the uses he required. We identified these as a main logo, an icon, specifically to work well as a favicon, and a watermark. I also produced variations of the main logo, including a landscape and portrait layout.
